CR7 powerless! Al Nassr lose again despite Ronaldo penalty goal
Before the kickoff at Al-Awwal Park, the pressure on Al Nassr was immense. Their main rivals, Al Hilal, had earlier secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Al Hazm, temporarily stretching the gap at the top to 4 points.
This result left the team led by manager Jorge Jesus with no choice but to win to keep pace in the championship race. While the legendary Ronaldo entered the field with fierce determination to end his trophy drought in Saudi Arabia, his teammates struggled to match his elite composure.
The match began with Al Nassr dominating possession and creating several early openings. Stars like Kingsley Coman and Joao Felix were frequent threats, yet they failed to convert their chances into goals.
The home side registered 9 shots compared to just 3 from the visitors in the first half, but the score remained deadlocked. The turning point arrived in the 51st minute due to a catastrophic defensive error.
Al Nassr goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqidi attempted a risky pass outside his area, only for the ball to strike the head of Julian Quinones. The Al Qadsiah forward reacted quickly, chasing the loose ball to slot it into an empty net.
As tensions rose, the game became increasingly physical, with several heated exchanges between players. Al Qadsiah capitalized on Al Nassr's frustration in the 66th minute when Nahitan Nandez pounced on a rebound to double the lead.
Al Nassr finally found a lifeline in the 81st minute after a handball in the box. Ronaldo stepped up and confidently buried the penalty into the bottom left corner.
This goal was a historic milestone, marking the first time a player has scored in 25 consecutive calendar years, dating back to 2002. It was also his 958th career goal and his 14th of the season, keeping him at the top of the league's scoring charts.
But, despite his individual brilliance, including 31 touches and an 85% pass accuracy during the game, Ronaldo could not prevent the defeat.
The loss leaves Al Nassr in second place, 4 points behind Al Hilal. This slump is particularly disappointing given that they started the season perfectly with 10 straight wins.
However, the title race is not over yet. Al Nassr will have a direct chance to revive their hopes on January 12, when they face Al Hilal in a high-stakes encounter that could decide the fate of the trophy.
