Europe conquered! Jesus scores twice, Arsenal smash Inter Milan to maintain perfect Champions League record

Arsenal extended their flawless Champions League run to 7 matches after a commanding 3-1 victory over Inter Milan, setting a new club record and securing an early spot in the last 16.

Before the clash at the Giuseppe Meazza, many experts expressed serious doubts about Arsenal’s chances. These concerns were fueled by a lackluster 0-0 draw against struggling Nottingham Forest just 3 days prior.

History also weighed heavily on the Gunners; in their previous visit to Milan, Mikel Arteta’s men left empty-handed, frustrated by an Inter defense renowned as the best in Europe. Furthermore, the Italian giants had maintained their defensive discipline this season, conceding only 4 goals in the competition before kickoff.

However, football is often unpredictable. Led by Gabriel Jesus, a striker who has faced constant scrutiny, Arsenal managed to breach the "Azzurri" defense 3  times in a stunning display of efficiency.

Jesus enjoyed his best performance of the season.

Arteta showed immense tactical bravery by making 7 changes to his starting lineup, prioritizing fresh legs ahead of a busy domestic schedule. Most notably, Jesus made his first European start in 405 days, replacing Viktor Gyokeres. Cristhian Mosquera, who had been sidelined with an ankle injury since December also came back in the starting XI.

The match began with Arsenal imposing a high-intensity "pinning back" strategy. In the 10th minute, the pressure paid off when Jesus poked home a close-range finish following a clever exchange involving Mikel Merino and Jurrien Timber.

Inter Milan responded fiercely and leveled the score eight minutes later. Petar Sucic unleashed a powerful strike from the edge of the area that beat David Raya after Nicolo Barella’s initial effort was blocked.

Despite the equalizer, Arsenal regained control through their most lethal weapon: set-pieces. In the 31st minute, Leandro Trossard headed Bukayo Saka’s deep corner back across the face of goal, allowing Jesus to nod in his second of the night. This marked Arsenal’s 19th goal from corners this season, a statistic that leads all of Europe’s top 5 leagues.

The second half was a physical battle characterized by tactical fouls and yellow cards as Inter searched for a way back. Federico Dimarco forced a brilliant save from Raya, while Mosquera had to perform a heroic 3-against-1 defensive recovery to deny the hosts.

The tension peaked in the closing stages, but substitute Gyokeres settled the contest. In the 84th minute, he curled a magnificent strike into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

Arsenal created history in the Champions League.

With this result, Arsenal have made history by winning 7 consecutive games in a UEFA competition. With a perfect 21 points, they sit 8 points clear of eighth-placed Atalanta, becoming the first team to officially guarantee a place in the Round of 16.

In contrast, Inter Milan have slipped to 9th place with 12 points, losing their grip on an automatic qualification spot.

This historic victory provides the perfect momentum for the Gunners. They now turn their attention to a pivotal Matchday 23 clash in the Premier League, where they will host a revitalized Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium this weekend.
