Manchester City reach agreement to sign Antoine Semenyo for £65m

Major European sources confirm Manchester City have agreed to trigger Antoine Semenyo’s £65 million release clause. The forward will face Tottenham tonight before officially joining Pep Guardiola’s side this week.

The January transfer window has witnessed its most significant move yet as Man City closed in on the signing of Bournemouth’s star forward, Semenyo. Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has officially delivered his trademark "Here we go" regarding the deal.

According to Romano, "The Citizens" have signaled their definitive intent to pay the £65 million required to release the 26-year-old from his contract with "The Cherries," bringing the high-profile pursuit to an immediate conclusion.

This strategic move by Man City was driven by the specific nature of the player's contract. It is understood that the £65 million release clause is only valid during this January window. Consequently, Semenyo viewed this as a "golden opportunity" to elevate his career. By joining a club of City’s stature, the Ghanaian international aims to compete at the highest level and secure major silverware, a goal that felt increasingly attainable given his recent performances.

Statistically, Semenyo is currently enjoying the most explosive campaign of his professional career. This season, he has already netted 9 Premier League goals and provided crucial assists, making him one of the most clinical attackers in the English top flight.

Such a meteoric rise naturally attracted interest from other "Big Six" clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea. However, reports indicate that Semenyo was firm in his decision to choose the Etihad Stadium. The primary motivation behind his choice was the opportunity to develop his game under the tactical brilliance of Guardiola.

The logistics for the transfer are already in place. According to internal sources, a medical examination has been scheduled for Thursday. Before traveling north, Semenyo is expected to represent Bournemouth one last time in their home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night. This final appearance serves as a farewell to the fans who have supported his journey at the Vitality Stadium.

Guardiola is the main reason Semenyo chose Man City.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola recently addressed the situation during a press conference. While he did not explicitly name Man City as the destination, he heavily hinted at his player’s departure.

"Antoine will play tomorrow, yes. I can give you my opinion, from my experience, but there is nothing signed... With all the noise, I think it could be the last game, but I cannot guarantee it. I understand the market... but right now he is our player”, Iraola said.

Once the move is finalized, Semenyo is expected to become a vital asset for Man City on the left flank. His arrival comes at a pivotal moment, as young talent Oscar Bobb is reportedly nearing a permanent move to Borussia Dortmund this month. Semenyo will provide immediate depth and high-level competition for Jeremy Doku, offering Guardiola a more direct and goal-scoring threat as City continues their intense title race against Arsenal.
