Nightmare for Liverpool: Isak suspected of leg fracture, facing long-term absence

Liverpool fans did not have much time to celebrate, despite Alexander Isak scoring in the latest win against Tottenham Hotspur. According to several major sources, the expensive Swedish signing may have suffered a leg break, raising concerns that he could be sidelined for a long period.

Coming on in the second half of Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, Isak scored his second Premier League goal of this season after just over 10 minutes on the pitch.

Receiving the ball from a pass by Florian Wirtz, the Swedish star showed impressive pace to break through and face goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario before finishing clinically to give a goal for “The Kop.”

However, Isak did not celebrate after scoring. The 26-year-old striker appeared to be in pain and held his leg after a tackle from Micky van de Ven. Liverpool’s medical staff immediately entered the pitch to provide treatment, but the player was unable to continue and had to be substituted, making way for Jeremie Frimpong.

After the match, head coach Arne Slot was asked several questions by reporters about his player, but the Dutch manager did not rush to give a final conclusion.

“I have not received the latest information about Isak. I have not spoken to him yet, but the positive thing is that he scored a goal, a high-quality finish from a good assist by Wirtz. The players are improving, and the team is getting better,” Slot said.

Liverpool supporters are hoping that the £120 million signing has not suffered a serious injury, especially as the club is about to enter a demanding period across all competitions and the number 9 is gradually settling into the team.

However, a sports physiotherapy account on X called “physioscout” recently claimed that Isak may have suffered a leg break, based on images and the player’s reaction after the incident. The account also predicted that the former Newcastle United star could be out for several months.

“Unfortunately, based on our analysis, Isak has suffered a lower leg fracture. Recovery time will depend on the type of the injury. A simple fibula fracture: 6–10 weeks with surgery. A fibula fracture with ligament damage: 12 weeks or more. A tibia fracture: 3–5 months”, the account wrote.

As some consolation for Liverpool fans, the other striker, Hugo Ekitike, also scored in the same win over Tottenham, directly securing all 3 points for the team. This marked the 8th time this season that the French forward has found the opposite net in the Premier League.

As for Liverpool, the three points earned in London helped Slot’s side climb to 5th place in the Premier League table after 17 rounds with 29 points. They are level with Chelsea and trail league leaders Arsenal by 10 points. In their next match, “The Kop” will return to Anfield to host bottom-placed Wolves.
