Premier League top assist 2024/25: Salah out in front as Bruno Fernandes misses the top five
The curtain has fallen on the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, with Liverpool celebrating their 20th English league crown and a second title of the Premier League era. It marked a dream debut season for Arne Slot, who stepped into the role following the departure of Jürgen Klopp and guided the club back to the summit. Central to that success was Mohamed Salah, whose outstanding form proved decisive throughout the run-in.
As is customary at the close of every season, attention quickly turns to individual honours, particularly the Golden Boot and the Playmaker Award. In this context, Soccer24.net has published its latest ranking of the Premier league top assist 2024/25, outlining the standout creators who shaped the title race.
Premier League top assist 2024/25: Salah tops the chart
Mohamed Salah brought the 2024/25 season to a close with yet another remarkable chapter in his Liverpool career. The Egyptian forward finished top of the assist standings with 18, securing the Premier League Playmaker Award and underlining his influence in Arne Slot’s first year in charge.
His contribution went far beyond creativity alone. Salah struck 29 goals in 38 appearances to claim the Golden Boot, completing a rare domestic double of individual honours. In doing so, he became the first player in Premier League history to win the Golden Boot, the Playmaker of the Season award and the EA SPORTS Player of the Season prize in the same campaign.
The numbers place him alongside some of the league’s greatest names. With 47 direct goal involvements, Salah equalled the single-season Premier League record previously set by Alan Shearer in 1994/95 and Andy Cole in 1993/94. His performances were central to Liverpool’s march toward a 20th English league title, achieved in Slot’s debut season following Jürgen Klopp’s departure.
Speculation over his future had intensified amid strong interest from the Saudi Pro League. However, Salah put an end to the rumours in April 2025 by signing a two-year contract extension, committing himself to Anfield until 2027 and reaffirming his status as the cornerstone of Liverpool’s new era.
Second only to Mohamed Salah in the assist rankings was Jacob Murphy, who delivered 12 for Newcastle United. The 2024/25 campaign proved to be a genuine breakthrough for the 30-year-old winger, long regarded as a useful squad option but now firmly established as a decisive figure.
Murphy ended the season with 20 goal involvements in 35 league appearances, numbers that reflect his growing influence in Eddie Howe’s side. His creativity played a significant part in Newcastle’s strong domestic run, which culminated in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the EFL Cup final. That triumph secured the club’s first major trophy since the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and marked a defining moment in their recent resurgence.
In the league, Newcastle finished fifth, demonstrating improved consistency across the campaign and earning qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League. Murphy’s individual milestone was equally notable. He became the first Newcastle player since Laurent Robert in 2001/02 to register double figures for open-play assists in a single Premier League season.
A key factor behind those numbers was his understanding with Alexander Isak. Murphy supplied seven assists directly to the Swedish striker, more than any player set up a single teammate in the division this season. Together, they formed one of the league’s most effective attacking partnerships.
Bruno Fernandes also featured among the league’s top 10 assist providers, finishing the campaign with eight. In what was otherwise a deeply disappointing season for Manchester United, his contribution stood out as one of the few consistent positives.
United endured a difficult domestic run and slumped to 15th place in the Premier League table. There was a brief opportunity to salvage the campaign in Europe, as they advanced to the Europa League final in May 2025. However, defeat to Tottenham Hotspur ended their hopes and confirmed that the club would be without European football in the 2025/26 season.
Individually, Fernandes reached an important milestone. He became only the sixth player in Manchester United’s history to register 50 Premier League assists for the club, underlining his creative influence despite the team’s struggles.
